We grade and prep the ground right first, because sod is only as good as the soil under it. Tossing expensive grass on top of compacted clay or an uneven grade is a waste of money. The roots will struggle to penetrate, water will pool in the low spots, and the lawn will eventually fail. We start by stripping out any dead turf, weeds, and rocks. Then we bring in our heavy equipment to establish a proper grade that moves water away from your foundation.
Once the grade is set, we loosen the top layer of soil and often amend it with quality topsoil to give the new roots a nutrient-rich base to grab onto. We select premium turf blends, typically fescue or bluegrass combinations that thrive in the Illinois climate. How We Install a New Lawn

- Laying the Sod: We use fresh sod delivered straight from the farm on the day of installation. We lay the rolls in a staggered pattern, cutting tightly around garden beds, sidewalks, and irrigation heads.
- Rolling and Finishing: After laying, we use a lawn roller to press the sod firmly into the soil. This eliminates air pockets and guarantees the roots can establish quickly. We leave you with detailed watering instructions so you know exactly how to care for your new investment.
